As winter sets in, many people experience cold and cough. While medications offer quick relief, doctors recommend avoiding them for mild symptoms unless absolutely necessary.
1. Turmeric Water
Turmeric, rich in curcumin, helps fight allergies and infections while boosting immunity. Mix a teaspoon of turmeric powder in warm milk or water, let it sit, and drink it like tea. Consume twice daily, morning and evening.
2. Warm Liquids
Drinking warm liquids such as soups, broths, or water helps improve immunity and alleviate cold symptoms by supporting the body in combating infections.
3. Honey with Warm Water
Honey, known for its immune-boosting properties, can soothe colds and coughs. Mix it with warm water for quick relief.
4. Ginger
Ginger’s anti-inflammatory properties help relieve dry or asthmatic coughs and ease throat pain. Combine ginger juice with honey in warm water or milk for added benefits.
5. Basil Leaves
Boil 4–5 basil leaves in tea or warm water for two minutes and drink two to three times daily. Chewing fresh basil leaves can also reduce throat irritation and coughing.
6. Cloves and Cinnamon
With antifungal and antibacterial properties, cloves and cinnamon can ease throat irritation. Boil them in water or milk, adding ginger or turmeric for flavor, and drink.
7. Black Pepper
Black pepper, rich in piperine and essential nutrients, is a traditional cold remedy. Add ground pepper to warm milk or water for relief.
8. Steam Inhalation
For severe nasal congestion or phlegm buildup, steam inhalation can help. It is not necessary for a runny nose without congestion.
If symptoms persist or a high fever develops, consult a doctor promptly.
